At the beginning of 2007, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the owners of Western Bakery Company Limited and International Bakery Services Company for Almarai to own these companies, increasing the capital by 1,090 million Saudi riyals. The company's capital currently stands at 8 billion Saudi riyals.
In 2009, Almarai and PepsiCo announced the establishment of the International Company for Dairy and Juice Projects Limited (ADG); followed by the acquisition of the International Agricultural Projects Company (Beyti), which specializes in the manufacture of dairy products, fruit juices and milk known in Egypt. Its production continues under its trade name as one of ADG's subsidiaries.
In the same year, Almarai entered the poultry industry by acquiring Hail Agricultural Development Corporation for $253 million in cash and gaining market share.
In 2011, Almarai announced its intention to invest in the dairy industry by increasing production in Saudi Arabia. Arab News also announced the creation of an additional 12,000 local jobs over 5 years. |
