Richard Mille Launches Carbon-Silicon-Quartz Composite Flame Red RM 011 TPT Quartz
Richard Mille continues to use unique composite materials in its watch cases with the launch of the RM 011 TPT Quartz, which is made from a bright red composite material that mixes carbon, silicon dioxide and quartz.
Exotic composites are a Richard Mille signature and the new RM 011 TPT Quartz is a prime example. With a vivid red colour throughout the case, the RM 011 TPT Quartz is the first watch to use a carbon-silicon-quartz composite material that is light, strong and exceptionally red in colour. The composite material was developed by North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT), a composite material specialist that usually makes parts for cars and aircraft. First used in the RM 27-02 Rafael Nadal Tourbillon, TPT Quartz consists of sheets of carbon with a silicon dioxide layer in between to create a wood grain pattern. Quartz is mixed in to give the material a smooth surface, while resin acts as a binder for the material, which is baked in an autoclave and then machined into shape.
Aside from the case material, the rest of the RM 011 TPT Quartz is exactly the same as the original RM 011. It is an automatic chronograph with a wulgaryzm function and an oversized date display.
