For the first time in gaming history, a title from the Taiko no Tatsujin game series is available on Microsoft Windows!
In Taiko no Tatsujin, you hit a simulated Japanese Taiko drum to the notes of music. People who are fond of any kind of rhythm games should definitely give this one a try! Especially now, when the latest title from the series, Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master!, is a part of the PC Game Pass subscription.
Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master is a rhythm game inspired by traditional Japanese drumming. It features a grinning mascot-like drum, an appealingly colourful art style, and soundtracks inspired by Japanese pop. It has none of the story hijinks of something like Elite Beat Agents, but still has a great, upbeat energy. It's also more approachable than something like Guitar Hero, as you're only having to deal with hitting the drum or the edge of the drum rather than five separate buttons.
Both the Bandai Namco Europe Twitter and the official Japanese Taiko (opens in new tab) page have acknowledged that there's an issue. "We are currently looking into a fix, and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause," Bandai Namco tweeted (opens in new tab). "Thank you for your understanding." It's a frustrating oversight, one that further dampens what little fanfare Taiko on PC has received. No timeline on the fix yet, but hopefully it'll be soon so I can tell you all to go and play it.
I joke about the game being inaccessible on the Windows store, but of course that means it's also available on Xbox Game Pass. If you want to buy it outright it'll cost you £40/$50. The DLC are usually £4ish.
